Lenses and Coatings
In order for your glasses to be as comfortable as possible choosing the right frames is not the only consideration you need to think about.
What about the lenses themselves? They must, of course, be the correct strength but thickness and weight are also important. A higher power
today does not have to mean thick lenses. New materials and techniques make it possible to choose thinner lenses or Hi Index Lenses. These are a
perfect alternative for those who demand maximum comfort, care about their appearance yet will not compromise on the lens function.
Eye-Eye Optics has a varied range of lenses and coatings. Why not personalise your glasses, enhance them, choose thinner lenses, Sunsensor,
Polarised or Hi Index Lenses? Why not add a coloured Tint to your Lenses or an Ultra Violet Protection Coating or Anti Reflective Coating?
Every pair of glasses we send out we coat with a Hard/Scratch Resistant Coating FREE of charge. Read on to find out what we have to offer.
Lens options
We offer Single Vision (FREE), Bifocal (£25) and Varifocal Lenses (£95).
Single Vision Lenses come FREE with all our frames. Your prescription will tell us whether you need:
Single Vision lenses for reading – Shortsight, you can see close objects easier than distant objects.
Single Vision lenses for distance – Longsight, you can see distant objects easier than close objects.
Single Vision lenses for intermediate work - computer use. For this we require both near and distance strengths.
Bifocal Lenses combine both distance and near powers in one lens (2 powers in 1). The lens is divided in two. The top is used for distance, the bottom for reading.
If you have not entered your Pupillary Distance then we will take the average recommended by Ophthalmic Opticians. We recommend, however, that you ask
for your PD at your eye test.
Varifocal Lenses combine distance, intermediate and reading in one lens (3 powers in 1). For those who need to wear glasses all the time Varifocals cover
all situations. Unlike the bifocal lens the varifocal has no lines on it denoting the different strengths. It is very important that we have your exact PD
measurement as we cannot take the average here. Without it we cannot process your order.
Prices stated are for orders where the Sphere Value is not greater than +/-6 and the Cylindrical Value is not greater than +/-3. Please contact us if you
are unable to place your order and we will be happy to quote you the price for the more specialised lenses you require.
Thinner Lenses
We can thin your standard lenses by approx 40 %. This makes the lens lighter and cosmetically enhances the appearance of your glasses.
Hi Index Lenses
Hi Index lenses are an excellent alternative if a higher power range is needed. In an ordinary lens the higher the strength, the thicker the lens. With Hi Index lenses the edges are much thinner and so less material is required.
Hi Index lenses are recommended for:
Those who prefer thinner lenses,
Those who want maximum comfort as they are lighter than ordinary lenses,
Cosmetic purposes. For prescriptions that require a higher strength the lenses are more visually pleasing.
A 1.61 Hi Index lens is approx 25% thinner than a standard lens.
A 1.67 Hi Index lens is approx 40% thinner than a standard lens.
Please contact us for a quote if you require 1.74 Hi Index lens.
Multi Anti-Reflective Coatings are added to all our Hi Index lenses FREE of charge. These coatings help protect the lens surface from
scratches and also reduces glare and surface reflections. They make the lens almost invisible so that your eyes are the focus of attention and not the glasses.
They reflect more light than normal lenses.
Sun Sensors
Sun Sensors are a perfect all round lens. They remain clear in normal lighting conditions but react quickly to sunlight by becoming darker.
Practical and convenient Sun Sensors lenses are cost effective. There is no need to carry an extra pair of prescription sunglasses. With these lenses you always
have the right glasses with you! Choose between brown and grey.
You cannot combine Sun Sensor lenses with Polarised or Tinted lenses.
Polarised Lenses
Polarised Lenses offer maximum protection from the sun's UV rays and reflected glare. They eliminate UV rays which makes them ideal for driving during the day.
For sports and water activity lovers the improvement in colour contrast, depth of perception and improved definition is particularly welcome.
You cannot combine Polarised lenses with Sun Sensor or Tinted lenses.
Tints
We offer both Full and Graduated Tints in a choice of 6 colours – Brown, Grey, Blue, Green, Red and Yellow. Brown and Grey are generally the most used. Brown is the
best colour overall as it allows the widest light spectrum to the eye and offers the most favourable colour contrast. It is especially useful for sports lovers who
constantly need to judge distance, in skiing, racquet games and golf. Grey blocks out the sun's brightest rays and is useful for water sports where the glare can be a
distraction. With a choice of 6 colours these Tints are just right for Summer, practical and fashionable! Graduated Lenses are used mainly for Bifocal and Varifocal
users. They are especially useful for reading outdoors.
Each colour is available in four strengths, 1 being the weakest and 4 the strongest:
1. Computer Use
2. Driving Glare
3. Medium Sunglass Strength
4. Full Sunglass Strength
Use the pictures to help you with your choice.
You cannot combine Tinted lenses with Sun Sensor or Polarised lenses.
Anti-Reflective or ARC Coating
Anti-Reflective Coatings help reduce the reflection on the lenses. When driving (day or night) or using the computer they reduce the glare and
lessen the strain on the eyes. What you see is both clearer and sharper. ARC also cosmetically enhances the lens, the coating makes the lens almost invisible
making your eyes and not the glasses the focus of attention. They also protect the lens surface from scratches.
Ultra Violet or UV Coating
UV Coating helps protect the eyes from the harmful damage caused by the sun. This protection helps tolerate bright sunlight and softens harsh light
without making the glasses seem any darker.
On all our lenses we provide a Hard/Scratch Resistant Coating FREE of Charge. Unsightly scratches and marks can lead to a worn look and also a
decreased field of vision. We want your glasses to function properly and to look good until you decide to change them.
